Obsession: Cadbury Egg
It's that time of year again...time to put down the Cadbury Creme Egg and STEP SLOWLY AWAY FROM THE BASKET. Why am I obsessed with these wholly unnatural little beasties? They're not really eggs. A bunny purportedly "lays" them, for crying out loud! But oh, are they delicious. Every year, after the last of the Valentine's Day cards get cleared from my local drugstore, my heart skips a beat and my stomach starts growling in anticipation for the chocolate-covered treat, its hard shell filled with...well, whatever that stuff is! Fondant, I suppose. Sweet, sugary, grainy. Is it the healthiest treat in the world? Of course not. But it's no Death By Fettucine Alfredo, either. For 170 calories and 6 grams of fat, it's a delish splurge that comes once a year (minus the few that I stash behind my box of oatmeal for PMS-fueled cravings.) Did I mention they're vegetarian?
Now I just need to find out if they're kosher for Passover... ;-)

I must say that gratefully, Easter is the one holiday I deem "safe" for myself. The whole gunk-filled-egg thing doesn't tempt me at all. In fact, I've been known to get minor attacks of nausea at the grocery store checkout stand just pondering what actually is inside of those pastel colored foil things. My downfall comes at other times. Try keeping my hands out of my kids' pumpkin-shaped buckets when candy corn resides in there. Or what about those precious, red heart-shaped boxes of Sees chocolates come Valentine's Day? Forget about it. Last weekend I put myself on Weight Watchers, more in an effort to GET CONTROL of my chocolate/sweets bingeing than for any really need to lose a lot of weight (of course, 5 lbs before summer would be nice now, wouldn't it?). In the six days since I began counting points (again), I already feel healthier. Like I'm taking better care of myself. Easy does it on the egg thing, Les. Ugh. Have a nice piece of gefilte fish instead. XOXOXO.
oh Leslie, I am so right htere with you!Unlike Tami, Easter is the one holiday that gets me. candy corn, eh, I could take it or leave it. chocolate covered rasberry cream on V-day doesn't tempt. But those cadberry bunny eggs, oh my GOD they are incredible. So bad, they're actually good! Glad to know someone else craves them as much as I do!
Oh, my, I thought I was the only one in the entire world that was obsessed with the Cadbury Cream Egg. Everyone I know thinks they are disgusting, slimy little things. I live to eat them at Easter. I stash a dozen of them in various places in the house, just so I can 'happen' upon them at any given time. It's so bad. But so good.
Cadbury eggs, Reese's eggs, chocolate bunnies--seriously, I love any chocolate easter candy. I could care less about brunch or any real meal. It's the same at Christmas--the ham and turkey are all well and good, but I'd rather just have a bunch of dessert. Not good, I know, but the advantage of being in college is that I can leave any leftovers behind.
I don't know what is is about Cadbury eggs, but I am right there with you, Les! My theories on OCD (obsessive creme-egg disorder) are as follows:
1. The foil has a better texture than any other chocolate. With practice, it can be removed in one unit; like the satisfaction of peeling an orange keeping the entire peel intact.
2. There is some bizzare negative-pressure type suction one can discern upon first bite. Similar to breaking the seal of a bag of coffee. I believe there is something to this negative-pressure that keeps the "yoke" separate from the "albumin".
3. One MUST maintain eye contact with the egg during consumption. If not, there is a mess. And creme-egg creme cannot be sucked off the fingers with the same satisfaction of Cheeto-orange removal.
I can totally relate to your candy posts!!!!
OMG, you know what is even better than the Cadbury Creme Egg? When I was living in England they had a McDonalds there that had Mcflurries where you can add chopped up Cadbury creme Eggs in it. Yum!
My friend and I would drive 40 minutes just to get one of those.
OKAY! I love these sick eggs! But this year I have a greater love, THE CADBURY MINI-EGGS! They are delicate and less calories and come in a pack, what more do you want?
I am obsessed with these too, and have been ever since I was a little kid:) They instantly make me happy for some reason...I love being able to savor them by licking out the creme s-l-o-w-l-y....lol. And yes, the mini-eggs are wonderful too!
I'm obsessed with hollow chocolate bunnies. Few weeks before Easter I'd go a buy 20 of the little suckers and keep them in my drawer at home and at work. Now my husband loves them too. He was looking forward to the after-Easter sales! I don't know why I love them, maybe because they're hollow and seems like I'm not eating as much as I really am, not like the stupid solid bunnies =)
I'm glad to know there are other's out there like me. I have loved those things since I was a little kid. What really sucks is that this year I had been really bad sick with a nasty virus, and was finally staring to get over it. I was actuall in the drug store to buy some medicine for my tummy, and I saw the Cadburry's, so I had to get one. The first thing I did when I got home was peel into it. Needless to say, I shouldn't have becuase It wasn't as good this year, my taste buds must've been all goofed up, and then I got sick. I only ate that one this year. Didn't even want another one!! I was soooooooo Disapointed!! You guys just don't know! Those things are definately a comfort food, always makes me think of Happy Easters when I was younger.
I love the cadbury eggs that r filled with the orange filling now those r really yummy for the tummy.
Love those eggs too! Hard to admit such a delicious treat..everybody seems to forget about them after the first few are eaten so they can "disappear" from the cupboard now!
