Grocery list gawking

Good evening!

I just got back from a book signing - very intimate, all women - and I'm about to settle in for the night but I wanted to post about a funny thing that happened as I was flipping through a magazine on the Elliptical today. It was a Shape I happened to pick-up on the airplane that a fellow passenger left (I have a subscription but it hadn't arrived yet and I wanted to dig in!) So, I'm paging through and I catch a glimpse of what appears to be the left-behind grocery list of the former owner, handwritten in the margins of page 76. It reads as follows:

Melon Berries Bananas
Pineapple Carrots Celery
Tomatoes Salad Peppers/Kukes
Tuna Cereal Bread
Pasta Sauce Tortillas
Hummus Bean Salsa Chips
Milk Turkey Yogurt Ham
Rice Cheese

How frigging healthy was this person?! Where are the Teddy Grahams? The Red Bull? The New York Super Fudge Chunk?

No, really, I'm actually just teasing Miss Supermarket Sweet - this is a stellar list and not too far off from my own (just sub in "brownie mix" for "tortillas.") It was kinda neat to peer into another woman's grocery cart -- like a gastronomical diary!

Does this belong to anybody out there? Is your list similar to this? What's missing?

All this food talk is making me hungry...for cereal, of all things. 'Night!

well i always start out with a healthy list, but the teddy grahams, red bull and brownie mix always come later when I am walking around in the store.

bananas bread lunchmeat
canned pineapple V8
zucchini carrots nonfat milk
ketchup hot dogs (treat for my husband)
pancake mix chili powder celery
yogurt frozen vegetables tomatoes
onions lettuce catfish apples peppers cheerios (for my 11-month old) mozerella mandarin oranges

We'll be having curried zucchini soup, lemon chicken, Dhal (hot lentil dish), blackened catfish, hot dogs for Memorial Day. I must admit, though, that I got a lot of chocolate for Mother's Day and I've been eating it all week.

Admittedly, the grocery list you found looks a lot like mine. It's the "unwritten" items that get me. I mean, who in their right mind would put "large bag of Reeses pieces" on their grocery list - someone might find the list!!! Oy!

Brynn, your Memorial Day feast sounds delicious!!! And Tami, I couldn't agree with you more - it's near impossible to actually write down "large bag of Reeses pieces," which I believe is the premise behind food diaries. Good point...and it made me laugh out loud!

My list has berries, berries and more berries on it too. But where is the wine?

Posted by FitSugar on May 21 at 02:00pm

she accidentally put tuna and meant to put chicken. and instead of melon, she wanted grapes. and brown rice. no tortillas, and, where's the cheese???? and I agree with Fit, we need some wine on there too

oh, and here is a quick tip i use to keep me on track when shopping with a alist: I write it on a post it note, then stick it to the plastic seat thingy flipped up or the grocery store map that is sometimes on the car. that way it is right in front!

I'm trying out Amanda's tip today. And FitSugar, I think you hit on something...although maybe wine should just be a given, like apples or milk. A must-have!
