Calories burned = Jewelry earned
My friend FitSugar was recently writing about how buying herself a pretty little gift is a fab motivational tool...even though exercising and eating well feels great, she pointed ut, why not reward yourself at different markers (miles ran; inches lost; vegetables eaten) with a fun prezzie. Her pick is this silver bracelet - the inscription helps keep her on track.
Now, I'll take any excuse I can get to go shopping - I once bought myself a huge fuzzy pink top hat in April because I thought it would be perfect to base a Halloween costume around it six months later (indeed, I did - Pam Anderson, anyone?) And I've always read about the importance of rewarding your workout and dietary progress with mini-gifts like a Clinique lipstick, a sportsbra, that kind of thing. Now that I think ab out it, I did splurge and buy buyself this gorgeous necklace - not because I had achieved a fitness goal, but because I had reached another, more personal level of emotional success...plus I am a huge fan of the cause (check out The Joyful Heart Foundation).
So tell me – have you ever bought yourself something to celebrate a fitness achievement or weight goal? I need some excuses to shop!
Have a great day!
Leslie

When I lost 50 pounds a few years ago, instead of buying myself another piece of jewelry or clothing that may or may not survive my next closet purge, I treated myself to a weekly housecleaning service. It's freed up my weekends dramatically, but best of all, when I walk into that lovely, clean house on Wednesday evenings, it's a fresh reminder of my achievement.
When my bike tires started getting flat again and I still biked to work for a week straight, I went out and brought a very nice, easy tire pump. It may not sound like much but it means I don't have to take it to the bike shop over 30 miles away to get it checked ever again! I also picked up a cleaning kit and completely cleaned up my dinged up bike and now she looks beautiful :) I also do the sports bra thing or anything else that makes my workouts that much better.
I am all about rewarding myself with fun things like a new pink Polar heart rate monitor, the cutest black Nike cross training shoes in the world (with a blue swirl), a magenta gym back that was on sale, workout bras, and my special collection of "gym bag cosmetics" to be used after showers at the gym. I have a complete wardrobe of Certified Spinning Instructor clothing, including jerseys, socks, wristbands, bandanas, tee shirts and baseball hats. I love this stuff. It makes working out that much more enjoyable for me.
I think that it is a great idea to reward yourself after you reach your goals. I like to set aside time for myself . Whether it is a shooping trip or just an afternoon to do whatever I want to do. It doesn't have to be something that cost money. I like to go to a new place to walk, like in our parks that I have never visited before.
I usually rewarded myself with a new workout DVD or some clothing to wear while working out as I was losing weight. When I got to my goal, my husband rewarded me with a Supreme Pilates machine I'd been wanting. Now that I'm trying to maintain, I still try to reward myself occasionally with a new workout DVD or a new piece of clothing. I really like the idea of taking some time for yourself as a reward - I'm going to have to try that!
I would like to do something with my children. Which they are Adults now except one he's 15. And he's working with me to loses this ALFUL WEIGHT. Take them somewhere fun . And see them enjoy there selves. If I'm not walking I'm riding my Bike I have in my house. Thanks Leslie for being on the Today Show that's what helped me plus weighing 221 lbs at 53yrs old.
