Can you believe she got engaged with THIS BUTT?! (Note: I'm being SARCASTIC)

Jennifer Love Hewitt has been catching a lot of flack in the media for some unflattering photos of her which have surfaced. In them, she's wearing a black two-piece bikini, enjoying a swim in the ocean. Like nearly 100% of women in the U.S., Jennifer has a tush. She needs it to sit on. To walk. To generally go about a normal life. Now, like nearly 99% of U.S. women, Jennifer's butt is not completely, totally smooth, free of all imperfections. This does not mean she is fat!

Is the photo the most flattering pic I've ever seen of her? Probably not. But if I had creepy men following me on the beach with long-lens photos, I would probably freak out. She's at least dealing with fame and not letting it run her life - she's in the ocean, hugging her new fiance, living her life.

Well, look what it gets you - name-calling and humiliation.

I decided to not post the image here, because I don't want to feed the frenzy. Suffice it to say, her butt looks like my butt in a bikini - a little cellulite, yes, but not The End Of The World.

The actress addressed the body controversy on her official MySpace page (why I know her MySpace page, I have no idea):

About my Vacation... and all the pictures of it online.
Current mood: annoyed

This is the last time I will address this subject.

I've sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women's bodies are constantly scrutinized. To set the record straight, I'm not upset for me, but for all of the girls out there that are struggling with their body image.

A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be. And being a size 0 doesn't make you beautiful.

What I should be doing is celebrating some of the best days of my life and my engagement to the man of my dreams, instead of having to deal with photographers taking invasive pictures from bad angles. I know what I look like, and so do my friends and family. And like all women out there should, I love my body.

To all girls with butts, boobs, hips and a waist, put on a bikini – put it on and stay strong.

Xoxo

I read about this from a different gossip site, the superficial (i know, not exactly the huffington post but i need to feed my tabloid hungry side of me) and they DID link the picture so i did see it. I must say, and no pun intended leslie, I've seen way more unlfattering "butts" at my gym locker room. In comparison, JLH's butt is cute. I appreciate her saying this for "all the girls sturggling with their body image" because shes reminding girls that she's normal and that they shouldn't strive to some ideal. Personally, i think i could used a little junk in my trunk and i can say the same for about 90% of hollywood actresses.

I saw the pics too (babble.com - a parenting site of all places - had them posted) and honestly my first thought was "I really like her bikini bottoms." I'm all about the boy shorts - less of a waxing committment:) Did I just share too much? Ahem. Anyhow, my second thought was "huh, she has some cellulite. Which is awesome because I have a lot of it." Then I thought about how fun it would be to go to the beach with her because she's a girl who actually GETS IN THE WATER and has fun instead of sitting in the one most-flattering position she knows the whole time.

I think the fact that women feel the need to speak out and defend their bodies shows how much the media has gotten in their heads. Jennifer is trying to prove she isn't fat by declaring her size 2 dress size just like Tyra did earlier in the year by putting on a bathing suit to say, "See? I'm not fat." To me, this need to prove thinness shows insecurity and a buy in to the media standards. Instead, women should be showing their body confidence by ignoring the media and continuing to do what they do without regard to anyone's opinion. The proof to Jennier's body confidence will come the next time she's photographed in a swimsuit and we can see whether or not she suddenly dropped back to a size 0 after all this criticism.

OK, I went over to that horrible website and read some of the reader comments, and now I'm REALLY wishing I hadn't. One woman, who was particularly nasty, is a 4th grade teacher! But the most vile one came from a guy who said he still wanted to sleep with her, but he'd humiliate her first. He then went into detail about HOW he would humiliate her. I couldn't find a link to report him to the board operator, but I was shocked that they would let him post that in the first place (although I guess I shouldn't be surprised.) Apparently it's still ok to talk about violating and humiliating women. Because it's just a joke, right? It's funny? And I should just lighten up? Well, NO. I WON'T lighten up, because it's NOT FUNNY.
