I got yer burrito right here

I love Chipotle as much as the next gut-busting, Tex-Mex fan. But when I stumbled across this tool for calculating the nutritional content of my favorite burrito, I just about lost my guac.

According to the site (and I can't personally vouch for the science used, but it seems about right. Sadly.), just the tortilla alone is the nutritional equivalent of a candy bar. 340 caloreis and 9 g of fat. After adding in my fixings (veggies, chicken, guac, salsa, and rice - altho I do ask for 'easy rice'), I came up with the grand total of 1194 calories and 54 g of fat. Looking at it with a margarita-is-half-full viewpoint, at least I'm getting 144% of my Vitamin C and 28% of my calcium!

But I'll still go - on occasion - because it's just so freaking yummy.

How does your burrito compare?

I used to get the 3 chicken soft tacos until I realized my lunch clocked in around 900 calories. Since then, I've ditched the tortillas. Now I get the salad, with chicken, corn salsa, very light guac and sour cream, ditched the cheese. I skip the salad dressing too. The sour cream, guac and juice from my salsa make a pretty tasty dressing. Really, it still tastes just like my tacos...the tortillas aren't that great.

As soon as I realized just how bad those burritos are, I stopped eating them. I think my last one was Jan. 1, 2005. If anything, I'll split one. There are other things I'd rather eat for that amount of calories (mmm chocolate milkshake anyone?)

A friend from Mexico told me that burritos aren't actually Mexican food, that they originated in the U.S. Kinda like Kung Pao Chicken, which doesn't exist in China. (American Chinese food is a lot different from traditional Chinese cuisine.) It's nice to know we can take a culture's cuisine and RUIN it,lol!

coinicdentally, I was playing with a Chipotle calculator last night and hit the floor with the calorie totals. My goodness I did not realize how caloric those puppies are especially when you add on cheese, guac, and sour cream. I usually only eat half but still, that's a LOT of calories.
