Emma Thompson, will you adopt me?

US Weekly arrived yesterday - always a thrill in my household. Dan snapped it up before I could get my greasy little paws on it and proceeded to read aloud a story to me which basically went like this:

Emma Thompson reportedly threatened to quit her upcoming movie, Brideshead Revisited, after learning that Miramax producers had ordered her co-star, Hayley Atwell, 25, to lose weight.

This is Hayley (in the red):

As you can see, she IS quite large. (Note: I am JOKING!)

Emma learned about the weight loss mandate when he costar was visiting her home but eschewing most of the food Emma served. Says Hayley, "I told her why and she hit the roof."

Ultimately, Miramax backed off and Emma did not resign. But she did manage to make this blogger green with envy for her firm stance and huge, huge balls. Go, girl! We all need a friend like you!

...and isnt it sad that this is so newsworthy.
we women, indeed, need to have more balls, errr, chutzpah and stand up for ourselves and those who might not be ready to do it for themselves.

Speaking of HEARTING the trashy mags: what's the deal with CZJ? I adored her in the movie Chicago and always loved her seemingly unabashed love of her body for what it DID for her (not to mention its amazing curves. where hath they gone?)

Sigh. I already had a huge girlcrush on Emma Thompson.

I've always wanted to BE her, a goal which seems pretty darn unrealistic, given her incredible smarts, classy accent, and enviable cheekbones.

And it turns out she's principled and brave and outspoken too. Gotta love Emma.

Hands down, one of the awesomest H'Wood stories I've ever heard. I love you Emma! (And I second Crabby's opinion on her cheekbones).

I wrote about this last week, and man o man I love Emma Thompson to bits. Watched Sense & Sensability and Nanny McPhee last weekend. Great movies. Oo, I liked Dead Again too.

I LOVE her!!!! And when I heard about this I LOOOOOVED her even more!

I finally saw "Nanny McPhee" and really enjoyed it! She's such a great writer! And when the snow starts falling, and she looks over at the kids and smiles, I was just blown away AGAIN at how gorgeous she is, and how I want to be her, and how Colin Firth should have married her instead of that adorable (but VERY YOUNG!) maid.

Emma Thompson is one of the most beatiful and charismatic actresses ever. I love roles which epitomize STRENGTH in women. It is ridiculous to make everyone look the same in movies. Sometimes I get confused between one pretty face and another. Where are the CHARACTER faces which the Europeans are self confident enough to use. America's obsession with weight and with skinny blondes with big boobs is juvenile to state the obvious. Yeah Emma! It's about time we turned from sheep into the individuals we all are. Afterall, flowers come in all shapes, sizes and colors and who are we to dismiss all but the images that look like Barbie dolls. Sex is in the BRAIN primarily and the plastic values of Hollywood degrade both the country and it's values. How superficial are we willing to accept being just to fit into the wet dreams of a bunch of idiots. Once again I applaud Emma for taking an uncompromising stand against this trivial nonsense. The majority will step up to the plate on this issue but it can not be too soon for m

When I first read about this I cheered out loud. At work. I didn't care that people looked at me strangely, I was just so glad that someone finally stood up about this problem! I have grown up loving Emma, but she has now become one of my heroes.
