Why do we eat disgusting, gelatinous gefilte fish on this night but not all other nights?

Because we're Jewish, that's why!

Hooray for the chosen people! Happy Passover to any Jewish Weighting Gamers out there. I hope you don't get too constipated from all the matzoh and successfully debloat by tomorrow after these past two days of sodium-infused brisket and chicken soup. Last night I spent a few hours with my family and grandparents' friends at an abbreviated Seder, during which I walked in on not one, not two, not three...but FIVE different conversations about varying diseases, surgeries and ailing body parts. It was FUN. Eight meat dishes, one intestinal casing product and zero vegetables later, it was time for fruit, kosher chocolate (which I accidentally left in the trunk of my car all day, resulting in what could best be described as Chalky Marshmallow Cup Bark) and a big old cup of Let's Get the Hell Out of Here.

Tonight, Seder #2 is just me, Dan and my parents...at a sushi place. Now that's Jewish! At least I won't have to deal with any waitresses urging me, "You should eat more. You hardly had any turkey. Eat! Do it for me!"

Happy and healthy wishes to everyone, and yes, I am bitter that we don't get milk chocolate bunnies and pink jelly beans.

I usually spend passover with my dad at my grandmother house in Antwerp, Belgium. This is the first year i am i am alone at home (he's in in Antwerp though!). I tried to "keep passover" there but i gave up. I mean when it waffle capital, its hard to resist! Our seders were small (my grnadmother is not very social) but i loved how we had a non-kosher for passover cake for dessert. thats just how unconventional My grandmother is weird in that she used to say i dont eat enough and now she thinks i buy and consume too much?? i will never understand this jewish grandmother dynamic, i promise, i will leave food preferences up to my grandchild's own choice. BTW, i can't stand matzo, but every goy (non-jew) i meet tells me they love them. And here i am gaga for caldbruy creme eggs!

O and another thing, LOVE the cartoon, i found another funny one that i just posted over at Nutritious Junk. I dont think Dr. Atkins was Jewish, but i bet it would have been his favorite holiday.

Hungry Waif, that is SO true! All my friends would ask me to bring extra matzo to school during Passover, so they could eat it. I'd give them mine!

But Moses took pity on his people; after 40 years of wandering and eating matzo, he went to God and said "Let my people GO!"

(Tee-hee! Get it?)

One of my good friends is Jewish (and well aware of my eating, shall we say "issues") so I keep telling her that I'm going to fast with her during the fasting holidays. Haven't tried the matza yet, but sounds like something I might want to steer clear of.

I'm at school in Champaign this year, so I got a little homesick not being able to go through Jewel and the Passover friendly sections back in Skokie and Evanston :(

My grandfather on my mother's side was Jewish but after he passed away 10 (?) years ago, everyone else pretty much stopped observing the major holidays. Thanks for a trip down (constipation) memory lane. Plus - Passover for a vegetarian?? Yikes.

Love sushi.
