"It's peanut butter-jelly time, peanut butter-jelly time..."

I meant to tell you all, as of Wednesday of last week, I am the proud owner of a shiny, brand new, never-before-opened jar of Skippy crunchy peanut butter.
Sagan got me thinking of the topic when she recently blogged about the creamy treat - it's a food that, until now, I typically have pilfered from my husband's side of the cabinet. Not that my man minds sharing food (indeed I am the one who actually waffles when he asks to try a piece of my sushi or feeaks if he polishes off the grapes. I am a bad, bad sharer.) But what I was doing was dipping a knife (safe, I know) into the PB, then into the jelly jar, then into my mouth. Repeat. Gross, yes, but whatevs- we swap spit all the time. But he quickly grew (and rightfully so) disgusted when he found little chunks of peanuts floating in his jam - actually, it must be jelly 'cuz jam don't shake like that - and asked me to stop defiling his product. So what did I do? I became a big girl, all growns up, and bought what I swear is my first personal jar of PB in over a decade. Some girls splurge on Manolos, others like fancy leather bags, I treated myself to some super chunk.
And you know happy I feel? THIS happy. (And of course, it's always funny to watch a dog do it, too.) Turn it up and rock out!!
PS My quickest surefire PB cookie recipe:
1 cup PB
1 cup sugar
1 egg.
Mix all up and cook in small scoops for 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees F. That's it! Add chocolate chips to double your pleasure, double your fun.

Hey, I'd say peanut butter and jelly by the knife is probably one of the best ways guilty snacks you've talked about lately! Ah the joy that will come from jellyfying your own jar of PB.
PS- Got your comment on ASA, your long post was well worth the time, I hope to link to it soon!
I luuuuuurrrvvve me some PB, I rarely go a day without it. Now you got me wanting some crunchy PB - YUM!
I love peanut butter straight out of the jar, but if I start eating it, I'll continually have peanut butter binges.. hence I refuse to allow myself straight peanut butter. It actually works better than allowing myself to have some because my relationship with peanut butter is all or nothing.
I like to mix my PB&J together into a purple goo, then smear it on graham crackers. For some reason, this really creeps my husband out, but it's a tasty treat from my childhood, and he can stuff it.
I also found a weird recipe that combines 1/2 c PB, 1/4 c honey, 3/4 cup dry milk. You mix it up, roll it into little balls and then coat the balls in sunflower seeds or coconut. They make nice little snacks, if you can limit yourself to 1-2.
Peanut Butter!!! Oh, yum. Except I take a spoon, dip it into the (peanut-only) PB and then into a bag of dark chocolate chips. Instant PB cup! I think your way is probably healthier tho plus it doesn't make your chips look like they have molded.
Roxanne - I make those. I got the recipe out of a kid's cookbook - they called it "edible playdough" Although after watching what my kids do to it I often don't feel like eating it;)
That might be the deadliest cookie recipe ever. Well, if you added a stick of butter to it. I eat my peanut butter on a spoon every morning. Skippy reduced fat baby. I must agree with Dan on the chunkers of PB in the Jelly...that's just NASTY!!
CeeCee- YES doll, it GOTS to be CHUNKY!
the cool thing about PB is that you DONT need butter when you make cookies with it! really, theres a lot of the natural oils that they mimic the same moistness butter lends. if you want a "less deadly" PB cookie, palmtreechick, try any cookie recipe and replace the butter with the same weight equivalent of PB or even, and dont frek out, avocado. Youll at least replace the bad fats with healthy ones.
I loved that song when Brian dressed up as a banana and sang it on family guy!

Hi! I just have to recommend Teddy PB. It's super simple and it's gooooooooood. Super Chunky (if you like that) or Smooth. Just peanuts (and salt or unsalted depending on what you choose).
are you messing with me?
will that really work?!
Ill be back later.
Tornado and I shall try it out.

Hehe. Coincidentally, my lunch today was 1/4 cup of PB2, eaten straight off the knife. Best way to do it. Peanut butter love!
MaraNatha chunky no-stir peanut butter. Heaven on a knife!
Add in some dark chocolate chips, and YUM! Angel wings!
i kid you not, my boyfriend and i were discussing that song last night, thanks for getting it caught in my head again.
i heart peanut butter. i view bread as just a vehicle to get peanut butter into my belly.
peanut butter jelly and a baseball bat!
Skippy reduced-fat Superchunk! The only way to go!
Btw, my friend uses that PB cookie recipe because she has celiac disease. It's just as yummy for the rest of us :-)
I love peanut butter, but I'm definitely partial to the creamy kind. I eat it all ways: straight out of the jar, with chocolate pieces, on a banana, with pretzels, on celery...PB goes with everything!
Peanut butter straight out of the jar is simultaneously the most satisfying and most dangerous snack ever.
And no way is there a peanut butter cookie recipe that simple. I want to try that out SO badly.
I love peanut butter too, and those cookies sound so simple even I could make them!
And being lazy, I'll comment on your previous scale post here as well:
I think that's an awesome sign of a healthy relationship with your body. I'm a no-scale gal too and I've never felt better about how I look and feel. Congrats on getting past the artificial "numbers" that so many people let rule their lives.
I love peanut butter. Creamy only. I eat it straight out of the jar with the biggest spoon I can find. I double dip. I don't care!
(But I don't dip it in the jelly. I take my PB straight.)
I LOVE that cookie recipe! I made it for the first time before my 1st IP stay (NOT for me...of course) for my chiropractor. When I was in treatment I did a cooking experiential with my dietitian (we did a group one...but 16 girls making chocolate chip cookies was a disaster!) and that was my dessert choice. They were good! That was in 2000. I had one again in 2007!
PB is always the first thing I take out of my food list and the last to put back. I haven't had PB (other than said cookie) in months!
what about goober grape (PB&J together)? do they still make that stuff?
Y'all (yes I'm from Texas) are going to think I'm really weird but I hate peanut butter and chocolate mixed together. I like them both separately, just not together. So yes, that means I don't like reeses (?) or peanut m&ms, etc. I actually used to only like peanut butter on something but since I've gone vegetarian I've expanded a lot of my eating repertoire and now I'll actually crave peanut butter by itself (only smooth though, no chunks of any kind)! I love Skippy natural but I can't find it anymore :0( My all time fave is still a PB&B sandwhich. Spread a thin layer of PB on both sides of the bread and put raisons on one side and sliced bananas on the other.....YUM!!!!!!
checking back in....better late than never :)
The Tornado and I LOVED our pb cookies!!
